My services will cost between $35 - $55 per hour depending on the project, the clarity of any material we start with, any discount options chosen and the timing required. For on-going collaborative support, a retainer package makes the most sense. This is often a tremendous savings compared to the true cost of hiring an employee.

The True Cost of an Employee

Calculation based on Glen Carbon, Illinois area:
Salary.com states that an Executive Assistant in Glen Carbon/Edwardsville
Illinois receives a base salary in the range of $35,992 to $58,917 (or $17.30 to $28.33 per hour).1 The median salary is $22.82 per hour ($47,465 per year). Based on these figures, an employer’s true cost is calculated below:

$22.82 per hour x 40 hours = $ 912.80 per week
+ 44% of salary (benefits, overhead etc)2 = $ 401.63 per week +
+ 20% of salary (Unproductive Time)3 = $ 182.56 per week
True Cost Per Week = $ 1,496.99 per week
or = $ 37.42 per hour
or = $ 77,843.00 per year

So, $22.82/hour really costs an employer almost $78,000/year rather than the $47,500 that one might think at first glance.

2. Benefits cost 44% above salary. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s annual Employee Benefits Study published on February 22, 2007 in an article called “Employee Benefit Costs continue to rise”: “Employee benefits swelled again in 2005 and now account for more than 44% of payroll expenses, Employee benefits, as a percentage of payroll, have risen 4 percent points over the past year.

3. 20% Unproductive Time: According to a July 25, 2007 article on Salary.com called “Employees Waste 20% of Their Work Day”*, companies are paying billions in salaries for which they receive no direct benefit. Personal Internet use, socializing with coworkers and conducting personal business accounted for 72% of the wasted time. Personal phone calls and breaks to run personal errands were other activities cited. Respondents also reported that they feel some of their work-related activities are wastes of time such as fixing someone else’s work (18.1%), dealing with office politics (16.2%), and sending or responding to emails (13.1%).
